The Weeklings Christmas CD
The Weeklings' Christmas CD
The Weeklings' Christmas Album includes Beatle "mash-ups," including this year's new single, "Must Be Santa," which is combined with "Helter Skelter." “Must Be Santa” is transformed from a fanciful children’s song into a bona fide heavy rock anthem. The Weeklings have now applied a new twist to a classic to produce a cheerful romp most welcome for the holiday season.
The 16 songs released on the “Christmas” album are a mix of the original holiday-themed songs paired with powerful rock renditions of classic seasonal songs! Lefty Weekling (aka Glen Burtnik) and Zeek Weekling (aka Bob Burger) composed 9 tracks for the album to cover a broad spectrum of musical styles and a sprinkle of unexpected interjections of musical interludes throughout the record. The lead original tracks include “Christmas Day,” “Another Year,” “Festivus,” “Star Carol” and “Gonna Be Christmas.” The Weeklings are determined to lift everyone’s spirits!
The light-hearted album has something for everyone, from the classical instrumental
composition “Joy” by J.S. Bach, to the comical interlude version of “Dreidel.” “Joy” is the album opener and features the lead guitar of Rocky Weekling (John Merjave) burning through the classic melodies of Bach and Beethoven and mashup snippets from The Beatles and Queen. “Dreidel” is a traditional Yiddish song that celebrates the spirit of Chanukah, with added whimsical touches such as bicycle bells and the sounds of musical toys. It will put a smile on your face!
For those who don’t celebrate Christmas or Chanukah, The Weeklings also have a track for “the rest of us!” The band’s original song, “Festivus” is inspired by the faux holiday invented by the Seinfeld character, Frank Costanza as a ridiculous alternative to the traditions and commercialism of the season.
The musicians playing on the album include the band: Lefty (Glen Burtnik) (bass, guitars, vocals), Zeek (Bob Burger) (rhythm guitar, bass, vocals), Rocky (John
Merjave) (lead guitars, vocals), and Smokestack (Joe Bellia) (drums, percussion, vocals). The instrumentation is rounded out with The Ocean Avenue Stompers Horn Section, and the Red Ryder BB Gun Singers choir.
